The construction and fabrication of a bench shearing machine involve meticulous engineering to ensure precision and durability. This specialized device, designed for cutting various materials with accuracy, is typically composed of sturdy components such as a rigid frame, a cutting blade assembly, a lever or motorized mechanism for applying force, and a clamping system to secure the workpiece. The frame, usually made of high-strength steel or cast iron, provides structural integrity and stability during operation, while the cutting blade assembly, crafted from hardened steel or other durable alloys, is carefully aligned and sharpened to deliver clean cuts. The lever or motorized mechanism, powered either manually or by an electric motor, exerts controlled pressure to execute the cutting action efficiently. Additionally, the clamping system, often featuring adjustable jaws or fixtures, firmly holds the workpiece in place to prevent shifting or misalignment during cutting. This integrated design ensures the bench shearing machine’s effectiveness in tasks ranging from sheet metal fabrication to woodworking, enhancing productivity and precision in various industrial and artisanal applications.

ABSTRACT

The air of this project is to design and fabricate a bench shearing machine which can complete favorably with the imported ones.
this machine is designed and fabricate, using our cheap and available materials.
Some qualities such as durability, reliability and portability are guaranteed.
It is functional and can cut or shear a metal of up to 4mm thickness
It is recommended for use in all the work shop cutting operation.
The machine being operated manually is an added advantage to compare with imported type and power backsaw since it compels with them.
It can be useful in work-shops where cutting operation is needed and there is no electricity.

INTRODUCTION
Later in the years Nigeria as a country failed to react to the rapid advancement in technology until 1986, she realized that in both economy and technology she was under developed, she was dependent on the developed countries for survival, because many thing are being important from those countries. Attempt made to solve these problem include, introduction of the structural adjustment programme (SAP) and the war against indiscipline and corruption (WACI). These bodies prohibited the importation of some goods, there by building the inspiration on our people to embrace indigenous technology. This led to significant achievement in the field of technology of this country.
Since this great achievement has made engineer, scientist and technologist in this country were able to join efforts both mentally and manually into production and research programmes. One of the fruits of their contributed effort was the invention of the bench shearing machine.
The bench shearing machine is manually operated, it can be useful in work shops or factories.
In fact this product is aimed at providing a close substitute to the famous Japan made bench shearing machine.
It is worthy to note that this bench shearing machine is designed and fabricated using our locally available materials to show the important of copy technology.

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The fabrication of bench shearing machine is to reduce, alleviate and to eliminate suffering, time, money, energy, and waste of material and more especially the need for technological break through and self reliance which has been major concern of the federal government.
Right from time immemorial metal shearing has been a very great problem in the society.
To help eradicate this problem this project write up has delved into simplicities and construction of bench shearing machine that can be use to cut up to 4mm sheet of mild steel plate with a treated blade made up of high carbon steel.
The machine is manually operated with handle known as the effort, the longer length of handle helps it to increase its output towards the work piece the material example mild steel, dead mild steel or aluminum alloys.

Bench Shearing Machine:

A bench shearing machine, also known as a bench shear or benchtop shear, is a mechanical tool used to cut sheet metal, plastic, or other materials into straight, clean, and precise lines. These machines are commonly found in workshops, metal fabrication shops, and industrial settings where cutting large sheets of material accurately is required.

Here are some key features and components of a typical bench shearing machine:

  1. Frame: The frame of the machine provides stability and support for the cutting mechanism. Bench shearing machines are designed to be mounted on a workbench or table, hence the name.
  2. Blades: Bench shearing machines have two sharp blades that come together to cut the material. One blade is stationary, while the other is movable and operated by a lever or handle. The blades are typically made of high-quality steel or other durable materials.
  3. Cutting Capacity: The cutting capacity of a bench shearing machine refers to the maximum thickness and width of the material it can cut. These machines come in various sizes, and you should choose one that suits your specific cutting needs.
  4. Lever or Handle: To operate the machine, you typically use a lever or handle to bring the movable blade down onto the material. Some models have foot-operated pedals for greater control and safety.
  5. Adjustments: Bench shearing machines often allow you to make adjustments to the blade gap and cutting angle to achieve different types of cuts, such as straight cuts or angled cuts.
  6. Safety Features: Many bench shearing machines come with safety features like blade guards and emergency stop mechanisms to prevent accidents and ensure user safety.
  7. Material Support: Some bench shearing machines have built-in material support guides or backstops to help you align and hold the material in place for precise cuts.
  8. Material Clamps: Some models have clamps or hold-down devices to secure the material firmly during the cutting process, ensuring accuracy.

Using a bench shearing machine involves placing the material to be cut between the blades, aligning it correctly, and then operating the lever or handle to bring the movable blade down onto the material. The blades shear through the material, resulting in a clean, straight cut.

These machines are commonly used in various industries, including metalworking, sheet metal fabrication, and model making, where precise cutting of materials is essential for the construction of components, parts, or prototypes. It’s important to follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate protective gear when using bench shearing machines, as they can be hazardous if not used properly.
