Design And Construction Of An Alcohol Detector With Automatic Engine Cut-Off System

This project focuses on the design and construction of an innovative alcohol detection system integrated with an automatic engine cut-off feature. The system employs advanced sensor technologies to accurately measure the alcohol content in a person’s breath and swiftly relay this information to a control unit. By utilizing keywords such as “alcohol detector,” “automatic engine cut-off system,” “design,” “construction,” and “implementation,” this research material aims to elucidate the technical aspects and operational methodology of this cutting-edge solution. The integration of precise alcohol sensing mechanisms ensures real-time monitoring, enabling swift and effective action to prevent intoxicated individuals from operating vehicles. Additionally, the automatic engine cut-off system serves as a proactive safety measure, significantly reducing the risks associated with drunk driving incidents. This project bridges the gap between technological innovation and public safety, showcasing the potential for impactful advancements in automotive safety systems.

ABSTRACT

The main purpose behind this project is “Drunk working detection”. Now a days, many accidents are happening our factories because of the alcohol consumption of factory worker more especially engine/machine operators. Thus Drunk machines operating is a major reason of accidents in almost all countries all over the world. Alcohol Detector in factory project is designed for the safety of the people working inside the factory.

This device measures alcohol intake, displays percentage of alcohol and also automatically shutdown the machine the drunk person is operating (or about to operate) if it is above a particular threshold. Here we use an alcohol sensor circuit along with LCD display and a relay for shutting down the system.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1                                                        INTRODUCTION

The Nigerian government has been advising its citizens not to drink and operate or work for decades, instead they advice that if one ones to drink it should be after work.

This work is on an alcohol sensing system that measures alcohol intake, displays percentage of alcohol and also automatically shutdown the machine the drunk person is operating (or about to operate) if it is above a particular threshold. Here we use an alcohol sensor circuit along with LCD display and a relay for shutting down the system.

The main unit of the system is alcohol sensor and microcontroller. The system uses the alcohol sensor to detect alcohol. The sensor provides analog output. This analog output is now provided to the microcontroller for further processing. Based on the input the microcontroller calculates the percentage of alcohol and displays the same on an LCD display.

1.2                                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The objective of this work is design a Drunken machine operating detection device, which detects the percentage of alcohol and displays the same on an LCD display. It also automatically shut down the machine if the amount of alcohol exceeds a particular amount.

1.3                                              PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The main purpose behind this project is “Drunk working/machine operating detection”. This Alcohol Detector for factory workers project is designed for the safety of the people working in factory.

1.4                                         APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT

Applications of Alcohol Detector in factory:

1) “Alcohol Detector project” can be used in the various vehicles for detecting whether the driver has consumed alcohol or not.

2) This project can also be used in various companies or organization to detect alcohol consumption of employees.

1.5                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

1) “Alcohol Detection System in factory” provides an automatic safety system for machines in factory and employees working in the factory as well.

The sensors helps aid the management of a factory in the detection of alcohol during working hours, not to replace other more reliable and effective testing methods. This equipment helps provide law enforcement with tools to develop initial suspicion of someone breaking the law. Because they lack the precision of other tests and can detect alcohol from sources other than the suspected impaired worker.

1.6                                           LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

  1. This device will also shut machine down when the operator touches alcohol without been drunk by it.
  2. This device cannot be used in any alcohol producing company. When ignorantly used it will end up shutting down the machines when not necessary.

1.7                                FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT

1) We can implement GSM technology to inform the management of the factory about the alcohol consumption.

2) We can implement GPS technology to find out the location of the machine that is shutdown because of the drunk operator.

1.8                                        PROJECT WORK ORGANIZATION

The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:

Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to factory worker alcohol detector. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of factory worker alcohol detector were discussed.

Chapter two is on literature review of factory worker alcohol detector. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.

Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.

Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.

Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
