Design And Construction Of An Automatic Floor Washing Machine

The design and construction of an automatic floor washing machine entail the development and fabrication of a sophisticated cleaning apparatus capable of autonomously navigating indoor spaces while efficiently scrubbing and sanitizing various types of flooring surfaces. This innovative device integrates intricate sensor systems for detecting obstacles and determining optimal cleaning paths, alongside robust mechanical components such as rotating brushes and water jets to effectively remove dirt and grime. Furthermore, the machine incorporates programmable control algorithms to coordinate its movements and cleaning actions, enhancing its adaptability to different environments and floor layouts. By harnessing advanced technology and engineering principles, this automated floor washing machine revolutionizes traditional cleaning methods, offering unparalleled efficiency and convenience in maintaining cleanliness across residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

ABSTRACT

This is a robot capable of washing the floor of a room or area without any human effort other than just starting the unit. The machine is mainly built on a rectangular piece of board. It uses a rotating sponge underneath the unit to clean a floor as it passes over it. DC motor is used to change the direction of wheels which connected at the middle of the platform. Only one DC motor is used to move the robot overall room freely, and four small wheels are supporting wheels. Here to detect obstacles proximity sensor i.e. IR sensor is used.

 CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

Washing the floor, especially in the kitchen, is one of life’s annoying little chores that must be performed on a regular basis in order to avoid a buildup of debris. The standard method for floor cleaning relies on sweeping the floor and thereafter running a damp cloth or a mop across the swept floor. While tried and true, this method is time consuming and labour-intensive which result in “scheduled” floor washings being skipped for other less onerous tasks or even for a beer and a movie depending on the circumstances.

In order to overcome the time and labor intensity associated with floor washing, automated floor washing systems have been proposed. Such systems generally fall into one of two broad categories. The first type of such system relies on various sensors and artificial intelligence in order to systematically move the floor machine across the floor. The sensors detect objects and other obstructions and the artificial intelligence system determines the course of action of the device with respect to the object or obstruction. Advanced devices rely on neural networks or other learning algorithms in order to understand the topography of the floor for future cleanings of the floor.

The other major type of floor washing system uses some form of input device so that the user can program the system in order to teach the device the various perimeters of the floor as well as any fixed obstructions so that once so programmed, the floor cleaner will be able to traverse the floor properly.

While each of the above two types of automatic floor systems work with varying degrees of speed and efficiency, depending on the particular model, such systems tend to be very complex in design and construction, making such systems uneconomical for all but a few. Additionally, the programmable model tends to be unduly difficult to set up and maintain.

Therefore, there exists a need in the art for an automatic floor washing system that addresses the above-mentioned concerns found in the prior art. The floor cleaning system must be relatively simple in design and construction and must be easy to setup and operate. Ideally, the floor cleaning system will be compact and lightweight and will be easy to clean.

1.1                                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The main objective is to construct a device that clean or wash the floor of a room automatically. The automatic floor washing machine comprised of the following:

  1. a body member having an extension extending there from;
  2. a cleaning implement attached to the extension;
  3. at least one ball wheel attached to the body member;
  4. a motor disposed within the body member;
  5. an electrical source electrically connected to the motor for operating the motor; and
  6. a driven wheel swivelly attached to the body member and operatively attached to the motor such that when the body member is traveling and encounters an obstacle, the driven wheel swivels and changes the traveling direction of the body member.

1.2                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

An automatic floor washing machine uses a body member that has a change-of-direction driving mechanism such that when the body member encounters an impediment, the direction of travel of the body member is altered. An extension extends outwardly from the body member and has a cleaning implement removably secured thereto, the cleaning implement running along the ground and cleaning same during operation of the body member.

1.3                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This project is used in domestic purpose i.e. used to clean or wash the floor of a room automatically. If the battery is charged, then ON it to moves overall room at the same time it cleans floor as it passes over it.

1.4                                          ADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT

The automatic floor washing machine has the following advantages:

  1. The automatic floor washing machine is relatively simple in design and construction.
  2. The machine is very easy to setup and operate requiring either no or at best nominal programming of the device. The automatic floor washing machine is compact and lightweight and is easy to clean at regular intervals.

1.5                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

They are great for use in hospitals, schools, government buildings and all places where large groups of people congregate on a hard floor surface. They were soon discovered to be of great use in washing factory floors and other large buildings.

1.6                           PROBLEMS AND LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

  1. When components failed or when the battery gets low, this device may stop moving, going sideways, or just not operating correctly.
  2. This device may not wash floor thoroughly compared to when human being washed.
  3. This machine cannot wash stairs.
  4. Perform average on soft floors and carpets.
  5. Can easily struck up in the clutter of wires and threads if any
  6. Long time of cleaning as it is automated: this machine spends longer time to clean the floor of a room due to how it functions. In addition, it will not be capable of holding a large amount of dirt due to its small size.
