ABSTRACT

LED light box is an illuminating device which is useful for drawing people’s attention to an advertisement or store promotion. Static use of LED light boxes create a clearer and more visually appealing advertisement display, both in-store and outside. One of the best ways to display motion is to use an LED light box. These boxes are easy to set up, maintain, and repair. Furthermore, LED light boxes allow the user to come up with creative marketing ideas that would have been cost prohibitive prior to new light box designs. Possibilities include creating an image of motion and scrolling text. The aim of this work is to design such device that performs these tasks

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

This light box is a translucent surface illuminated from behind, used for situations where a shape laid upon the surface needs to be seen with high contrast.

This work is a 24″ x 36″ LED based Light Box which is a frame-style box that uses innovative LED technology to provide bright, white illumination to a backlit graphic. The Light Box features light-weight aluminum construction with a black finish and a “snap-open” clip that makes changing the graphics easy. Display the LED Light Box on a wall, from the ceiling or attach to a banner stand.

Using light box is another way of advertising effectively. Market research has shown that illuminated advertising attracts a much higher customer footfall, enables quicker customer processing and offers a significant increase sales compared to non-illuminated advertising. Here are some examples:
Fortis bank had a financial product they wished to promote, they utilised double-sided light boxes in some of their branch windows to illuminate the promotional poster and non-illuminated poster frames in the others. Their market research highlighted that the banks with backlit illuminated poster displays had an increase of over 30% sales of the advertised product in comparison to banks with exactly the same advert but displaying non-illuminated posters.

  1. ii) Boots reduced the time that customers spent at their digital photo counters by 3-4 times, simply by replacing their non-illuminated menu signage displaying services and prices with bespoke illuminated menu lightbox displays.iii) Bacardi market research has shown that the majority of people in a nightclub environment were not sure of what they were going to order when going to the bar. When their promotion was illuminated the increase in sales of the specific promoted drink increased by over 100%.

1.1                                                   AIM OF THE PROJECT

The main objective of this work is design an illuminating device uses innovative LED technology to provide bright, white illumination to a backlit graphic. In this work instead of using power cord or mains lead, a USB cord was used to supply power to the device.

1.2                                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The objectives of this work are as follows:

  1. At the end of this work an LED based light box will be constructed
  2. At the end of the work students involved will be able to understand how to used USB cord

1.3                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

  • A lighting box is used for advertising purposes. The panel can be illuminated by LED lighting
  • The efficiency of light boxes improved dramatically after the introduction of LED technology. The user inserts a graphic, which can be changed easily.
  • This can be used as an emergency light.
  • This can be used to work with laptop or computer without disturbing the others sleep.
  • This can be used as a reading lamp.

1.4                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

LED light boxes are useful for drawing people’s attention to an advertisement or store promotion. This is especially true if the advertisement displays flashing or movement. That is, motion tends to immediately grab most people’s attention due to its nature of constantly changing between two or more states.

Static use of LED light boxes create a clearer and more visually appealing advertisement display, both in-store and outside – which is the focus of the work. This device can be used to:

  • Decorate your church for the season
  • Promote a special event
  • Direct visitors to classrooms or meetings
  • Provide church information at entrances
  • Advertise at your refreshment stand

1.5                                   USB LED LIGHTS CIRCUIT ADVANTAGES

  • This is simple and inexpensive.
  • This is a portable lamp.
  • No extra source is required.

1.6                                              PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of the work is to design a lighting / illuminating device or Light box which is widely recognized as one of the most effective advertising mediums available. Promotional posters and corporate signage which utilizes the combination of illumination and colour are far more likely to catch a potential customer’s eye than a non-illuminated poster or sign would do.

1.7                                          LIMITATIONS OF THE PROJECT
  • This gives low intensity of light as it has only four LEDs
  • If the system is powered with rechargeable battery that means the system light will stop glowing as soon as the battery runs down.
  • The device is powered directly to ac mains (220V 50Hz) and rechargeable battery (6V 4.5Ah).
  • It can easily get burnt when high voltage is experienced in the mains if it is not properly regulated.

1.8                                        PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION

The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:

Chapter one of this works is on the introduction to an LED based light box with USG port. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of an LED based light box with USG port were discussed.

Chapter two is on literature review of an LED based light box with USB port. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.

Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.

Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.

Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
