Design And Construction Of A Mosquito Insect Killer

The Design And Construction Of A Mosquito Insect Killer (PDF/DOC)

Overview

ABSTRACT

This work is on a mosquito insect killer. It is an Indoor and outdoor insect killer which gives an environmentally friendly strategy for getting rid of mosquitoes from your outdoors and your indoor environment. This device contains extraordinarily successful UV (Ultraviolet) lights that attract the mosquitoes and diverse dreadful little creatures towards it. The UV (Ultraviolet) lights that attract mosquito insect to it and a grid around the LED light which grab and kills the mosquitoes.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

None of us likes bugs at home. To kill these flying insects, they should first be attracted and then electrocuted. An electric fly swatter is one such device with a high voltage electrocuting circuit and an insect attracting UV lamp of 365 nm wavelength.

1.1                                           BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Insects bite is one of the major causes of sickness and diseases to human beings. Insect such as mosquito and tsetse fly are the cause of malaria and sleeping sickness according to world health organization (WHO). In the last decade people use different methods of controlling insect – mosquito, such methods are the use of mosquito net, mosquito coil, and herbs [1][2]. However, these methods of controlling and killing of mosquitoes are not fully effective due to some limitations attached to them. In this work, we are designing an electronics means of killing mosquito insect. In this method, a high voltage electrocuting circuit and an insect attracting UV lamp was used. It has uv lights that attract bugs to it and a grill around the UV light which grab and kill the mosquitoes. The UV lights attract insects towards the lamp and the high voltage grill will kill all the insects that approach its light [7].

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

Tackling and getting rid of mosquitoes is quite a tough task especially when you don’t have access to expensive commercial machines. Even the marketed sprays & medicines are toxic chemicals and very harmful to health. To solve this problem, an electronics mosquito and insect killer was designed. This mosquito killer machine attracts mosquitoes due to ultraviolet light and kills them instantly as its metal grid emit high voltage electricity. This mosquito insect killer uses a mosquito high voltage grill to kill mosquitoes, thus making it safe for children and adults [3].

1.3                                       AIM / OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The main of this work is to build an electronics device that is used to kill mosquito insect. It attract mosquitoes with UV light and kill them using high voltage grid.

1.4                                              SIGNIFICANCE OF PROJECT

  1. It consumes lesser ( i.e Power 11W)
  2. It is Maintenance-free,Soundless
  3. No Smoke, No Allergy, No Pollution

1.5                                           LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

  1. Unit size 11.5X11.5X28cm
  2. With Hanging Hook
  3. AC220-240V, 50-60Hz
  4. 1 Pc UV LED light,

1.6                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

This device is used in Indoor and outdoor insect controlling in such places like [1][2]:

  1. Churches
  2. Homes
  3. Offices
  4. Industries
  5. Restaurants/hotel/eateries

1.7                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

This device was built around a high voltage electrocuting circuit and an insect attracting UV lamp of 365 nm wavelength. This ultraviolet fluorescent lamp is mounted in the middle of the cabinet and a pair of carefully spaced, electrically insulated, charged wire grids surround the light [5].

When an insect comes close enough to the mesh pair, an electrical arc is formed, the dielectric breaks down and current flows through the insect’s body. Electrocuting the insect doesn’t require it to touch both the wires as an arc forms in the air gap over 1800 V [5].

1.8                                                        METHODOLOGY

To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:

  1. Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
  2. Draw a block diagram.
  • Test for continuity of components and devices,
  1. Design of the system was carried out by designing the block and circuit diagram.
  2. Studying of various component used in circuit.
  3. Construction of the circuit was done.
  • Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.

1.9                                        PROJECT WORK ORGANIZATION

The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:

Chapter one of this work is on the introduction of the system were discussed.

Chapter two is on literature review. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.

Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.

Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.

Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
