The Influence Of Social Media Usage And Academic Achievement Of Students (PDF/DOC)
The study investigated the Influence of Social Media Usage and Academic Achievement of Students in Imo State University, Owerri. The design of the study is a survey research involving three research questions that guided the study. The population of the study is made up of 668 students in Education Government, under the Department of Social Science Education. The sample for the study is made up of 100 students which were drawn using simple random sampling technique due to the large population size. Instrument for data collection is the Rating
Scale titled: Social Media Student Rating Scale (SMSRS). Data were analyzed using mean score statistics and standard deviation. It was observed that social media affects students’ academic performance to a very high extent; social media sites affect students study time to a high extent; and social media affects students learning behaviors to a very high extent. It was recommended among others things that students should make use of social media sites for academic purposes
