Design And Fabrication Of Motorized Operated Groundnut Decorticating Machine

Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea), a vital leguminous crop originating from Latin America, has significant nutritional, economic, and industrial value, particularly in tropical regions of Africa. In Nigeria, groundnut production faces challenges due to the labor-intensive nature of traditional manual decorticating, which results in high processing time, low efficiency, and substantial kernel damage. This project focuses on the design and fabrication of a low-cost, electrically powered groundnut decorticating machine aimed at mechanizing the decorticating process, enhancing yield, reducing labor, and improving economic returns for farmers. The machine was developed with considerations for technical feasibility, adaptability to various groundnut sizes, and user-friendliness. The study highlights the machine’s socio-economic significance, including increased productivity, improved quality, potential job creation, and market competitiveness for local farmers. The research contributes to knowledge in agricultural mechanization, emphasizing technological innovation, design principles, and the socio-economic impact of mechanized processing. Recommendations for future enhancements include optimization strategies to reduce kernel damage, increase throughput, and ensure long-term sustainability. Overall, the groundnut decorticating machine represents a practical and scalable solution to modernize groundnut processing and support rural agricultural development.
