This revolution has brought about convergence of information communication technologies (ICT), which have remained at the centre of global, social and economic transformation. The information revolution and extraordinary increase in the spread of knowledge and information which affects directly economic, social, cultural and political activities of all regions of the world including Africa. Information and communication technology (ITC) is defined as computer-based tools used by people to work with the information and communication processing needs of an organization, it encompasses the hardware and software, the network and several other devices (video audio, everalphy camera) that convert information (text) images, sounds motion and others into common digital form.
ICT has made the shift from print to digital information possible which has created an impact on students’ academic records and information centres (Gbaje 2009).
This has enable on-line access and file transfer possible, with networking and resource sharing. Islam and Islam (2006) says that ICT as the role and publication of computers, telecommunication and microelectronics in the acquisition, storage, retrieval transfer and dissemination of information in students, academic records.
ICT is a significant development that provides effective took for managing the available of information generated in students, academic records. The prevalence and rapid development of ICT has transformed students’ information technology age to the knowledge.
In modern ICT based on students the information professionals handle various types of activities in relation to the role of computers and other new information technologies. Before the advent of information and communication technology. (ICT) is students academic records were the sole custodies of information which was predominantly in print. Today students’ academic record is struggling to keep their place as the major source of inquiry in the face of emerging digital technology.

Role Of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) In The Effective Management Of Students Academic Record:

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a crucial role in the effective management of students’ academic records in educational institutions. It enhances efficiency, accuracy, accessibility, and security of these records. Here are some key ways in which ICT contributes to this process:

  1. Data Management and Storage: ICT enables schools and universities to store large volumes of student data securely in digital formats. This includes personal information, enrollment records, grades, attendance, and more. Digital storage reduces the risk of data loss or damage compared to physical records.
  2. Efficient Data Entry: ICT tools like data entry software and automated scanning systems can streamline the process of entering new student information and academic records. This reduces the chances of errors and speeds up data entry tasks.
  3. Easy Retrieval: Digital records are easily searchable and retrievable, allowing educators and administrators to access information quickly when needed. This is especially important during registration, grading, and when addressing academic concerns.
  4. Automation of Administrative Tasks: ICT can automate routine administrative tasks related to student records, such as generating report cards, transcripts, and attendance reports. This saves time and minimizes human error.
  5. Online Portals: Many educational institutions now provide students and their parents with online portals where they can access their academic records, including grades, assignments, and attendance. This enhances transparency and encourages self-monitoring.
  6. Communication: ICT facilitates communication between educators, students, and parents. It allows for the dissemination of academic information, announcements, and progress reports via email, messaging apps, or online platforms.
  7. Analytics and Reporting: Educational institutions can use ICT to analyze academic data and generate reports that help identify trends, strengths, and weaknesses. This data-driven approach can inform decision-making and improve educational outcomes.
  8. Security and Privacy: ICT systems can be designed with robust security measures to protect sensitive student data from unauthorized access or breaches. This includes encryption, access controls, and regular data backups.
  9. Integration with Other Systems: ICT systems can integrate with other educational tools and systems, such as learning management systems (LMS) and library databases, to provide a comprehensive view of a student’s academic journey.
  10. Long-term Record Keeping: Digital records can be preserved for many years without degradation, ensuring the long-term accessibility of academic records for alumni and historical purposes.
  11. Remote Learning: In the context of remote or hybrid learning, ICT has become even more crucial for managing academic records. It enables online submission of assignments, online exams, and remote monitoring of attendance and participation.
  12. Scalability: ICT systems can scale as educational institutions grow, making them suitable for both small schools and large universities.

In summary, Information and Communication Technology plays an essential role in the effective management of students’ academic records by improving efficiency, accessibility, accuracy, and security. It streamlines administrative tasks, supports data-driven decision-making, and enhances communication between stakeholders in the educational process. As technology continues to advance, it is likely that ICT will play an even more significant role in education management.
