A solar power bank, also known as a solar charger or solar battery pack, is a portable electronic device that harnesses solar energy to charge built-in batteries, which can then be used to power or recharge other devices such as smartphones, tablets, or cameras. These innovative devices utilize photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly way to stay connected and power your gadgets on the go. With the increasing emphasis on renewable energy sources and the growing demand for portable charging solutions, solar power banks have emerged as versatile and efficient tools for outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, and individuals seeking reliable power options in environmentally conscious ways.

ABSTRACT

This research is carried out to develop a solar power bank that can be used when there is no mains supply. It contains a built-in solar panel that transforms sunlight into electricity. The charge is then transferred to a battery, the battery is connected to a charging circuit with a USB connector as an output to the corresponding Mobile phones. There are still certain parts of Nigeria that are without electricity. People in these rural places may charge their phones and other USB devices without needing energy using this solar power mobile charger. Solar energy is completely free. The sun’s energy is completely free. Because humans get sunshine directly from the sun, the energy source is basically free. Solar energy is both environmentally benign and renewable. As a result, there is no natural contamination. It is less expensive, and once installed, it provides numerous advantages. Maintenance is fairly inexpensive. We will be able to run various USB gadgets by storing this energy in batteries (like USB fan, USB light). This solar power bank is unique. It operates on the power of the sun, converting solar to electrical and assisting in the charge of cell phones for communication, making it indispensable during calamities and power outages.

Introduction
Background of the Study

The study of solar power bank has been among the top energy storage solutions in recent years, and the invented due to the erratic nature of power supply from the national grid.

A solar power bank is an energy storage device that obtains energy from the sun and uses it to charge/power various electronic gadgets, like phones, tablets, laptops, torches, bulbs, televisions, etc.

They are usually portable enough to be carried about for use when the need arises, but some are big and so need to be stationed at a spot. Solar power banks come in various capacities (usually between 1000 – 50,000 mAh) and have designs to suit individual preferences (Mehta et al., 2010).

The major feature of the solar power bank that makes it unique is that as long as there is sunlight, even just a little bit, your solar power bank will draw power. The power stored during the presence of daylight is then saved for use later. Some small solar power banks allow you to charge the power bank with both the sun or regular electricity (Mehta et al., 2010).

Most portable solar power banks can’t be used for high-power and long-hours charging. Notably, the portability of power banks is one of the reasons why people received it so well. That is understandable, because most prefer something they can carry around. This is why the large-sized solar power banks are stationed permanently or temporarily at a specified location.

Another reason why solar power bank is preferred is because is environmentally friendly. The earth is already battling so many environmental hazards and global warming is the most glaring issue today. By using solar power, you will be conserving energy, thereby reducing the strain on mother earth. This is because solar energy is pollution-free; it is clean, renewable energy. Its use doesn’t promote the emission of greenhouse gases, unlike regular electricity; instead, you are only tapping sunlight.

As a standby power, getting a solar power bank will help you stay connected most especially when there is no electricity.

Problem Statement
Dealing with an empty phone in the middle of a long trip or browsing for some information that is very important can be a frustrating experience, especially if you have an urgent phone call to take at the moment. In other to avoid being in this kind of situation, the use of solar power banks for your mobile phones is the solution.

Primarily, solar power banks refer to portable battery packs that collect power from the sunlight and turn it into electricity. This electricity can be used for charging mobile phones and other electronic devices without plugging them into an electrical socket.

Justification of the Study
The biggest advantages of using solar power bank is that one will be able to charge thier electronic devices without being near a power outlet. That is, if someone needs to charge his or phone, for example, you will be able to do so. Solar power bank small size makes them easily movable, they are very easy to use and you can charge them by plugging them into an outlet or with solar energy.

Aims and Objective
The main aim of this seminar is to carry out a study on a solar power bank. The objectives of the study are:

  • To carry out a review on a solar power bank
  • To study the advantages of using a solar power bank
  • To study the constructional view of a solar power bank

Scope and Limitation of the Study
The scope of this seminar covers the study solar power bank which is which is a device that have batteries that can be charged with solar energy and allow you to recharge without having to connect appliances to an outlet, and can charge plugging them into a power outlet as well as with solar energy. They are normal power banks with solar panels.

MORE DESCRIPTION:

A solar power bank is a portable device that stores electrical energy captured from sunlight. It is designed for on-the-go charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, and more. Here are some key features and information about solar power banks:

  1. Solar Panels: Solar power banks are equipped with small solar panels, usually located on their surface. These panels capture sunlight and convert it into electricity, which is then stored in an internal battery. The efficiency of these panels can vary, and they typically require direct sunlight to charge effectively.
  2. Battery Capacity: Solar power banks come in various battery capacities, usually measured in milliampere-hours (mAh) or watt-hours (Wh). The larger the capacity, the more charge it can store, allowing you to charge your devices multiple times before needing to recharge the power bank itself.
  3. Charging Ports: Most solar power banks have USB ports, which allow you to connect your devices using their charging cables. Some models also come with multiple USB ports to charge multiple devices simultaneously. More advanced models might even include USB-C or wireless charging options.
  4. Charging Speed: The charging speed of a solar power bank depends on several factors, including the capacity of the battery, the efficiency of the solar panels, and the intensity of the sunlight. Generally, charging via solar panels is slower than using a wall charger.
  5. Battery Type: Solar power banks typically use lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries, which are lightweight and provide a high energy density. These batteries are commonly used in portable electronic devices due to their reliability and performance.
  6. Durability: Many solar power banks are designed to be rugged and waterproof, making them suitable for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, or traveling. They can withstand various weather conditions and occasional drops.
  7. Charging Indicator: Most solar power banks have LED indicators that display the remaining battery capacity or the charging status. This helps you monitor the power bank’s charge level and know when it’s time to recharge it.
  8. Recharging Methods: In addition to solar charging, solar power banks can be recharged using a standard wall charger or a computer’s USB port. This flexibility ensures that you can have a fully charged power bank before heading out.
  9. Use Cases: Solar power banks are especially useful in remote areas or during outdoor adventures where access to electricity is limited. They can provide a backup power source for your devices, increasing your safety and convenience.
  10. Limitations: Solar charging is dependent on the availability of sunlight, so it may not be the most reliable way to charge a power bank, especially in cloudy or rainy conditions. It’s often recommended to charge the power bank fully using a wall charger before your trip and use solar charging as a supplementary option.

When choosing a solar power bank, consider your specific needs in terms of battery capacity, device compatibility, durability, and the amount of time you’ll spend outdoors. Additionally, check product reviews and specifications to ensure it meets your expectations and requirements.
