Biology Teacher Access And Utilization Of Virtual Laboratory In Secondary Schools

In Ihiala Local Government Area

This study was carried out to to assess Biology teachers’ access and utilization of virtual laboratory in secondary schools in Okene local government area. The study was specifically carried out tofind out the perception of Biology teachers on access and utilization of virtual laboratory in secondary schools in Okene local government area; find out the availability of facilities for virtual laboratory in secondary school in Okene local government, and find out the effect of virtual laboratory on performance of student on biology. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of biology teacher of some senior selected secondary schools in Okene local government In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 39 respondents and 35 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables. While the hypotheses were tested using Chi-square statistical tool. The result of the findings reveals that there is no adequate availability and access to virtual laboratory for teaching of biology in secondary schools in Okene local government area. The study also revealed that the use of virtual laboratory promotes the effective teaching of biology practicals in secondary schools in Okene local government area. Therefore, it is recommended that Nigerian secondary schools should make adequate provisions of free use of the ICT resources most especially the internet facilities for all teachers most especially Science related subjects teachers’ in order to give them full access to ICT resources to ease their instructional productivity. To mention but a few.

Generally, this study seek to assess Biology teachers’ access and utilization of virtual laboratory in secondary schools.Specific objectives of the study are stated below.

  1. To find out the perception of Biology teachers on access and utilization of virtual laboratory in secondary schools in Okene local government area.
  2. To find out the availability of facilities for virtual laboratory in secondary school in Okene local government.
  3. To find out the effect of virtual laboratory on performance of student on biology.

  2. What is the level virtual laboratories are utilized among biology teachers in secondary schools in Okene local government area?
