Influence Of E-Learning Facilities And Academic Achievement In Economics Among Secondary School Students

This study was carried out to assess the influence of e-learning facilities and academic achievement in Economics among secondary school students in Abaraka, Delta state. The study was specifically set to ascertain whether there is adequate availability of the E-learning resources in teaching of economics education, ascertain whether the use of E-learning contribute to effective teaching of economics education, find out whether the use of E-learning has an impact on academic performance of economics education students, and find out the factors which limits the use of E-learning in the teaching and learning of economics education. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of undergraduate students of economics education in Delta state University Abaraka. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 220 respondents and 150 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables. While the hypotheses were tested using Chi-square statistical tool. The result of the findings reveals that there is no adequate availability of the E-learning resources in teaching of economics education. Furthermore, the result of the findings reveals that the factors which limits the use of E-learning in the teaching and learning of economics education includes: inadequate provision of e-learning facilities, poor network connection, lack of competent teachers, poor maintenance of available educational technology facilities, and teachers negative attitude towards educational technology tools. Therefore the study recommends that government and Administrators of institutions should provide the enabling environment, and accessible facilities, as well as trained teachers to enhance the use of e-learning tools for effective teaching and learning of economics. This is better prepare the students for a competitive and technology driven world of world. To mention but a few.

Generally, this study seek to examine the influence of e-learning facilities and academic achievement in Economics among secondary school students. Specific objectives are stated below.

  1. Ascertain whether there is adequate availability of the E-learning resources in teaching of economics education.
  2. Ascertain whether the use of E-learning contribute to effective teaching of economics education.
  3. Find out whether the use of E-learning has an impact on academic performance of economics education students.
  4. Find out the factors which limits the use of E-learning in the teaching and learning of economics education.

The study will be guided by the following questions;

  1. Is there an adequate availability of the E-learning resources in teaching of economics education?
  2. Does the use of E-learning contribute to effective teaching of economics education?
  3. Does the use of E-learning has an impact on academic performance of economics education students?
  4. What are the factors which limits the use of E-learning in the teaching and learning of economics education?
