1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

1.1                                           BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Programmable Logic Controllers has become the soul of industrial automation as it is the hardware component that is directly in contact with the instruments of the field. It gives the access to control and monitor the array of connected machinery and the software system integrated with it. The Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) system can efficiently work with a variety of communication protocols like data analysis, conversions, i/o interfacing, linking, signal processing, rendering etc. The system is absolutely user-programmable. It has monitoring and maintenance is even more hassling free.

In the domain of motor control, there is an array of different systems and devices which are used, all having unique functions and offering key benefits to users. One of them – a Schneider logic controller – has a sturdy framework with unique functional characteristics such as sequential access control, ease of programming, timers and counters, easy-to-use hardware, and consistently secure controlling capabilities.

 

This research work describes design, development and application of Schneider logic controller SR3B261BD training kit, for student in their digital power course. The primary objective is to design an inexpensive, simple to use device that could be retained by students, so that they could undertake digital experimentations.

Schneider logic controller SR3B261BD training kit is designed to be used in small automated systems and also used in both industrial and commercial applications.

In Schneider logic controller SR3B261BD unit, there are dedicated modules for inputs and outputs. An input module detects the status of input signals such as push buttons, switches and temperature sensors. An output module controls devices such as relays, motor starters and lights.

Schneider logic controller regulates and monitors electrical installations. The kit is a computerized PLC device (programmable logic controller) which can be used where reliable control, simple programming and fault diagnosis are essential. The digital module works via input and output signals for control systems. That makes it an ideal unit to service a wide range of automation applications.

1.2     PROBLEM STATEMENT

Increasing developments in the automation and manufacturing industries has caused much demand for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) training for the execution of factory automation systems (Lee et al., 2011). Since the inception of PLCs for industrial automation and control, plant technicians, engineers and engineering students are challenged by lack of thorough understanding of the PLC system. Moreover, due to the high cost associated with PLC training courses and the continuous changing demand of the automation industries, companies and institutions find it difficult to provide the needed training on the PLC (Kim et al., 2013).

The above mentions problems has led to the inventions of Schneider logic controller SR3B261BD training kit which is designed for multiple input/output (I/O) arrangements, LCD and load (Petruzella, 2011).

1.2                              OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The main aim of this paper is to present design steps for a Schneider logic controller Sr3b261bd training kit for industrial automatic engineering operation with emphasis on hardware connection of the input/output components.

The objectives of this work are:

  1. To build a Schneider logic controller Sr3b261bd- type of training kit
  2. To practically realize the logic controller circuit.
  • To provide knowledge about components but also verify the theoretical knowledge of logic controller.

1.3                                           SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The research significances are:

Due to the development of PLC-based industrial automation trainer kit in this study is a miniature of equipment in the industry, it hopes to bring an industrial atmosphere to the learning of logic controller Practice in the laboratory of Electrical Engineering Study Thus, the product can facilitate understanding, increasing motivation and meaningful learning for students which aims to increase the students’ competence.

With the development of logic controller -based industrial automation trainer kit for learning  logic controller Practice in the Electrical Engineering Study Program, students learn the competency to apply logic controller as a machine controller in the So, they have competitiveness in employment opportunities which demands the competence of implementing PLCs as other machine controllers in the industry.
  2. For lecturers, the Schneider logic controller -based industrial automation trainer kit can help lecturers’ tasks in increasing motivation, enthusiasm, attention, and competence mastery in learning logic controller Practice in the Electrical Engineering Study
  3. For the Electrical Engineering Study Program, this research can provide opportunities to overcome the problem of the unavailability of the applicable practical equipment units in the industry into learning logic controller
  4. To all readers,it will also help readers to have more knowledge about electrical automation and control. Building this kit will make it easy in carrying out experiment in automation and control.

1.4                   SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This work covers the building a Schneider logic controller SR3B261BD training kit which comprises of 26 I/O, 6 buttons on front panel for programming and parameter entry, 2 power supply terminals, LCD display, 4 lines of 18 characters, 24 V supply voltage.

1.5                          APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT

This device is equipment for education, engineering and vocational training, which is useful in learning:

  1. Control systems for smaller machinery
  2. Heating and air conditioning controls
  • Lighting management
