The Design And Construction Of A Police Light Indicator (PDF/DOC)
ABSTRACT
Police light indicator is used by police for transportation during patrols and to enable them to respond to incidents and chases. Police flashing lights atop speeding patrol cars mean that officers are heading to emergency calls. Officers also use these lights while their cars are parked for police incidents that are in progress. This device can also be known as visual warning lights fitted to a police vehicle for used to provide additional warning of a hazard when stationary, or in the case of law enforcement as a means of signalling another driver to stop for interaction with an officer.
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Police lights are a vital tool on patrol cars in order for the police officer to do their job quickly and efficiently, while also keeping surrounding vehicles and pedestrians safe. Without any type of alert system, it would make it more difficult for police to get anywhere in the case of an emergency or to warn other people.
The colors that are used for police lights on squad cars actually have some significance; they primarily use two different colors, red and blue. When a squad car is flashing a red light, it is signifying that there is an immediate emergency. However, when a blue light is used (which can be easily spotted from a farther distance) it is meant to alert the presence of police. Squad cars also use white lights, which are usually used for the night shift when an area needs greater visibility, and yellow lights, which are used to alert other vehicles that a squad car needs to slow down. Interestingly enough, the different noises sirens make also have different meanings. The “wailing” noise that you typically think of is used primarily for open roads (often when the officer is traveling at high speed) or when they’re coming into an intersection. The wail is more efficient during that time because it’s more likely to penetrate the cabin of a vehicle in order for the drivers to hear it. The “yelping” noise is used in congested traffic situations to alert a car (or multiple cars) to get out of the way.
The accessories that are used for the police lights on patrol cars are often accompanied with base rotators. This allows the lights to turn, for the purpose of enabling a 360-degree angle. That way the light can shine in all directions. The light bars used on police cars often have a strobe feature along with a main LED light that creates an even brighter light in order for greater visibility for the police operating the vehicle, as well as those around the vehicle.
When the police lights are used they have varying degrees of significance. When police lights are used during a traffic stop, the lights are used to alert oncoming vehicles as well as parked vehicles on the road. When they are used at the scene of an accident, they are alerting oncoming vehicles to slow down or stop their car. During an emergency or a police chase, the police lights on the car are used to warn vehicles to move out of the way on the road, and to keep pedestrians safely away from the oncoming police car.
1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The objective of this work is to design a circuit that simulates the police car lights by alternate flashing. This circuit flashes red LEDs for three times and blue LED’s for three times. This flashing action performs continuously.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The main purpose of police light is to provide in indication of the arrival of police car which permits police officers to do their job quickly and efficiently.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
Police officer to do their job quickly and efficiently, while also keeping surrounding vehicles and pedestrians safe when they use light indicator. Without any type of alert system, it would make it more difficult for police to get anywhere in the case of an emergency or to warn other people.
Flashing lights atop speeding patrol cars mean that officers are heading to emergency calls. Officers also use these lights while their cars are parked for police incidents that are in progress – for example, a vehicle traffic stop or domestic disturbance at a residence. Approaching police lights warn civilians to move out of the way and to avoid police activity scenes.
1.5 APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT
- This circuit used as an indicator for:
- ambulances,
- police cars,
- Federal road safety corps,
- fire trucks.
- And other security personnels
- We can use it as LED flasher circuit by making some modifications.
1.6 LIMITATIONS OF THE PROJECT
- The values of the resistors R1, R2 and capacitor C1 should be same to get perfect flashing.
1.7 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
This circuit uses 555 timer and a decade counter. Here, 555 timer runs in astable mode. Decade counter 4017 counts the incoming pulses that is for first pulse Q0 becomes high and for second pulse Q1 becomes high and so on again for 10th pulse Q0 state becomes high.
1.8 PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:
Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to this project. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of this project were discussed.
Chapter two is on literature review of this project. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.
Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.
Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.
Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
