Abstract
This study was carried out to examine availability of laboratories and qualified teachers for effective teaching and learning of computer and integrated science in Udi secondary school Local Government Area in Enugu State as a case study. The study was specifically set to determine whether there is adequate availability of laboratories and qualified teachers for effective teaching and learning of computer and integrated science in secondary schools in Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State, assess the impact of adequate availability of laboratories on the effective teaching and learning of computer and integrated science in secondary schools in Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State, and assess the impact of adequate availability of qualified teachers on the effective teaching and learning of computer and integrated science in secondary schools in Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of students and teachers of the selected secondary schools in Udi secondary school Local Government Area in Enugu State. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 200 respondents and 150 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables. While the hypotheses were tested using Chi-square statistical tool. The result of the findings reveals that there is no adequate availability of laboratories and qualified teachers for effective teaching and learning of computer and integrated science in secondary schools in Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State. The study also revealed that adequate availability of laboratories has a positive impact on the effective teaching and learning of computer and integrated science in secondary schools in Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State as it enhanced practical learning, improved understanding and retention, increased engagement and interest, development of critical skills, encouragement of collaborative learning, and adequate availability of qualified teachers has a positive imapct on the effective teaching and learning of computer and integrated science in secondary schools in Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State as it enhanced instructional quality, improved student understanding, use of effective teaching strategies, curriculum implementation, development of practical skills. Therefore, it is recommended that schools should invest in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities equipped with modern computers, software, and necessary scientific equipment to facilitate hands-on learning in Computer and Integrated Science and schools should prioritize the recruitment of teachers with relevant qualifications, experience, and certifications in Computer Science and Integrated Science to ensure high-quality instruction.
