Benefits And Problems Of Social Media Usage Among Early Childhood Education Undergraduates

This study was carried out to examine the benefits and problems of social media usage among early childhood education undergraduates in Kwara State. The study was carried out to assess extent of social media utilization among undergraduate students in Kwara state, find out the benefits of social media usage among undergraduate students in Kwara state, and find out the problems of social media usage among undergraduate students in Kwara state. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprised of undergraduate students in education department of Kwara State University. In determining the sample size, the researcher purposefully selected 160 respondents and 141 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables, and mean scores. While the hypotheses was tested Chi-square statistical tool. The result of the findings reveals that the extent of social media utilization among undergraduate students in Kwara state is high. Furthermore, the study revealed that the benefits of social media usage among undergraduate students in Kwara state it includes: it can also be used as a news medium, it is a good tool for education, learning & networking, and it transfers online information faster , so the users can stay well informed. Therefore, it is recommended that the benefits of social media can never be overemphasized; therefore university management should ensure that they integrate the social media applications in library service delivery and learning system. For instance, the library can offer reference services on library social media platforms. To mention but a few.

The overall aim of this study is to critically examine the benefits and problems of social media usage among early childhood education undergraduates in Kwara State. Hence, the study will be channeled to the following specific objectives;

1. Assess extent of social media utilization among undergraduate students in Kwara state.
