Android Powered Juice Vending Machine

The Android Powered Juice Vending Machine (PDF/DOC)

Overview

In summers, as temperatures are high all the day, people often get thirsty now and then. So during this time juice vending machines play a very important role in people’s life. Normal juice machine is manually operated i.e to operate that machine every time some person must be present over there. So we here propose an interesting machine named “Android controlled Juice Vending Machine” in which thirsty person just need to put a Coin into machine and select which ever juice he wants with his phone itself.

The system is based on Atmega family microcontroller. Which when gets a signal from phone gives the signal to respective pump to start or stop the flow of juice. The system is based on Android phone control. The phone is connected to Machine with wifi module. One more extra part is IR sensors are placed at Juice outlet which detects the presence or absence of glass. If glass is not present it will notify the customer via display and a buzzer and will not start the flow. It also detects how much glass is filled if the glass is full the machine will stop the flow automatically. Hence this system can be installed anywhere, for example: a private office, a school, a canteen or at one’s house.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

1.1                                           BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A vending machine is an automated machine that provides items such as snacks, beverages, cigarettes and lottery tickets to consumers after money, a credit card, or specially designed card is inserted into the machine. The first modern vending machines were developed in England in the early 1880s and dispensed postcards. Vending machines exist in many countries, and in more recent times, specialized vending machines that provide less common products compared to traditional vending machine items have been created and provided to consumers (D. Eyeowa, 2017).

The vending machines first came into the market in the 18th century, and then modern vending machines came up in the 19th century with the help of modern technologies. The word vending is a Greek word, which means selling. The Juice Vending machine is simply a machine, which works automatically and can sell out various kinds of drinks like juices, soda water, plain water etc. Therefore, it is also known as Automatic Dispense Machine. These machines are more reliable, easily accessible and much more practical than the convention method of purchase. Nowadays these machines are found almost Everywhere like at schools, offices, small restaurants for selling snacks and drinks, even found at railway stations for selling tickets and thus avoiding the queue and in turn saves time (Preetilatha, 2014). This machine has a huge market with high annual revenues for both developed and developing countries. Gradually, vending machines became a wide channel with increase in sales and even the competition between the manufacturers. It does have many benefits, first benefit is in terms of setup, it is easy to setup a vending machine because it occupies very less space and is compact in size, it is a low cost driven machine and can provide various products as the output (D. Eyeowa, 2017).ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) is the best example of technology evolution in terms of vending machine in an engineering field. ATMs reduces the time and human efforts required to search, recognize and stand in a queue for cash payments and even for cash withdrawals. This work is aimed at design and development of android juice vending machine which will reduces the human efforts and this will saves the time also (D. Eyeowa, 2017).

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

Traditionally, Vendor sells the juice manually which cause the human efforts and their hard work. And this will consume more time. The quality of the juice is not so good for the health. This machine operates by putting a Coin into machine and selects which ever juice he wants with his phone itself. The phone is connected to Machine with android wifi.

1.3                                   AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The main aim of this project to design and development of an android powered juice vending machine which will reduces the human efforts and this will saves the time also. And the quality of juice is also improved. This machine will work smartly and it measures the temperature, level of juice .and it alert the vendor if the level of the reservoir goes below the threshold level. The objectives are:

  • To study the literature survey and find the gaps in
  • To develop the design and structure of the
  • To develop the microcontroller system for the
  • Testing of the system and real time
  • To gain experience in problem solving that we might be faced in future
  • To be creative and innovative

1.4                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Android powered Vending machine technology is used easily in the recent years to obtain a quick juice, It is used to dispense different juice to the customers without the involvement of staff or the human assistance on a 24 hour basis. This technology will serve as an eye opener to the designer. It will help them to understand the interface between the android and vending machine

1.5                                          ADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT

  1. Vending machines have the mobility, they can be moved to the new places and they will continue delivering the services as usual.
  2. This technology can be applied in other types of vending machine such as cigarettes vending machine and the other products.

iii.        It is user friendly and it consumes less energy.

  1. It saves time
  2. The operation should be easy with good efficiency.
  3. The machine should cost less and easy to manufacture.

Vii           Power required is less.

1.6                                           LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

As we all know that no human effort to achieve a set of goals goes without difficulties, certain constraints were encountered in the course of carrying out this project and they are as follows:-

  1. Difficulty in information collection: I found it too difficult in laying hands of useful information regarding this work and this course me to visit different libraries and internet for solution.
  2. Difficulty in parts gathering: I found it too difficult when gathering electronics parts used for the prototype.
  • Time Constraint: The researcher will simultaneously engage in this study with other academic work. This consequently will cut down on the time devoted for the research work

1.7                                              APPLICATION OF PROJECT

This device can be used in places like:

  1. private office,
  2. school,
  • canteen
  1. Home

1.8                                             RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

In the course of carrying this study, numerous sources were used which most of them are by visiting libraries, consulting journal and news papers and online research which Google was the major source that was used.

1.9                                     PROJECT ORGANISATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
