ABSTRACT

This project work is on an AC voltage generator ranging from 5v to 60v which is a variable power supply supplies different level of electric energy to an electrical load. The primary function of a voltage generator is to supply variable electrical energy to loads that fall at the same rating limit.

The transformer is one of the most common devices in our electrical system for power supply, and transformers are in use across a wide variety of practical applications wherever there is a need to convert alternating current from one voltage level to another.

Transformers can either increase (“step up”) or decrease (“step down”) the voltage and current levels of their supply, without modifying its frequency, or the amount of electrical power being transferred from one winding to another via a magnetic circuit. Custom transformers allow you to do this at any input and output voltage you have a need for, at all different levels of amp. Custom transformer was used in this work to supply variable power to the system

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

1.1                                           BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A voltage generator is an electronic device that supplies electric energy to an electrical load. The primary function of a voltage generator is to convert one form of electrical energy to another and, as a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters. Some power supplies are discrete, stand-alone devices, whereas others are built into larger devices along with their loads.

Every voltage generator must obtain the energy it supplies to its load, as well as any energy it consumes while performing that task, from an energy source. Depending on its design, a power supply may obtain energy from various types of energy sources, including electrical energy transmission systems, energy storage devices such as a batteries and fuel cells, electromechanical systems such as generators and alternators, solar power converters, or another power supply.

All voltage generator have a power input, which receives energy from the energy source, and a power output that delivers energy to the load. In most power supplies the power input and output consist of electrical connectors or hardwired circuit connections, though some power supplies employ wireless energy transfer in lieu of galvanic connections for the power input or output. Some power supplies have other types of inputs and outputs as well, for functions such as external monitoring and control.

When building a power supply, a standard transformer or custom winded transformer can be used. Custom transformers was used in this work. It allows one to use any input and output voltage you have a need for, at all different levels of amp.

This work is aimed at building an AC voltage generator ranging from 5v to 60v.

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

For prototyping and hobbyists, appliances or gadget with smaller voltages, they normally use batteries as a reliable power source. Instead of using batteries, which have a limited lifetime and which is also cost effective, a variable power generator can be used which is implemented in this project.

1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The aim of this study is to build an AC voltage generator ranging from 5v to 60v. The objectives are:

  1. To build a variable power supply
  2. Create prototype transformers
  • Build new transformers to meet your exact specifications

1.4                                           LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

This device is limited at producing 5– 60 v output using a custom transformer.

1.5                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This work makes it possible for someone to use one power supply to run different devices of higher or lower voltage rating without considering buying a new or different power supply.

1.6                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

This power generator is used by electricians and electrical project hobbyists use to test the capacity of voltage for any project they may have completed. The power generator with custom transformers for a wide range of industries, including audio, medical, industrial, power and signal applications, and more
