The construction of bookshelves involves the meticulous assembly of various components to form a functional and aesthetically pleasing storage unit for books. The process encompasses the selection of suitable materials, such as sturdy wood or metal, and the precise measurement and cutting of these materials to create the individual shelves and supporting structure. Attention to detail is crucial, ensuring the shelves are level and secure. The design aspect plays a crucial role, with considerations for both practicality and visual appeal. Incorporating keywords like “construction,” “bookshelves,” and “assembly” throughout the process is vital to convey a comprehensive understanding of the task at hand. Additionally, the integration of quality craftsmanship and a thoughtful design approach is essential to yield a well-crafted bookshelf that seamlessly blends functionality with an aesthetic touch.

ABSTRACT

A book shelve is a structure which here series of compartments for the preservation of books, valuable or useful materials, which are made up of metal, wood or plastic materials of construction. (Engineering materials).
The book shelve was constructed in the institute. (I.M.T Enugu).
However, before the construction, two standard metal sheets of length 96 inches and height 48 inches respectively, where dimension and divided into these required dimensions and sizes. Then welding operation were carried out and the dimension parts was welded into their fit places.
More so, filling of operation was also carried out, in other to smooth surface of the construction work and filling of pores and holes created was done.
Finally, in other to avoid destruction and corrosion or chemical attacks painting operation was done which the last operation was carried out.
Furthermore, the major result obtained from the construction were up to standard of a recommended book shelve. The cost for labour, purchasement, transportation, machine, and general total cost was N24,000.00 only (Twenty four thousand Naria only).

INTRODUCTION
A book shelve is a set of shelves with doors either built into a room offices or industries as a fixed, or a separate piece of furniture, used for utensils, provisions, clothing, storing, book shelves etc. those cupboard used in the libraries and offices for packing books are called book shelves.
In the industries, materials are stored in cupboard refer as a facility for storage.
In material selection for the construction of any cupboard strongly depends on the properties and purposes the cupboard will serve. Generally, considering all the materials of construction, it can be seen that, for instance, both metals and non- metals have their individual merits. But in companism, metals have a lot of advantages over non.metals.
For instance, while many types of metal are suitable for high temperature operation, non.metals such as wood and glass are suitable for lower and limited range of temperatures. Metals posses a wider range of chemical stability them non.metals. So, it can be said that the obvious advantage of first cost cheapness of non.metallic materials is counseled by other disadvantages of non.metals, the most glaring of which is that of narrow applicability. Considering the cost also, the first cost of materials is even not takes as a sufficient indicator on which to base the selection of construction materials. The following cost factors among other must also be considered. Fabrication cost, installation cost, maintenance cost and cost of replacement. These cost factors must be considered in the material selection for construction.
Books shelve desire it name and purpose sometimes from the material of construction and also the shape it takes. Most book shelves built in homes, usually used for lairing clothes, serves the purposed of protecting clothes for the dust and other things and so, they are arranged in a chronological order, files are also arranged in arc inside the book shelve for protection of the necessary documents of the institution. Such cupboards are normally refers to as bookshelves. It is usually made of metals.
Most cupboards used for domestic purposes such as keeping of dishes and provisions, are usually made of wood, and in this case, there is no observation of all the operation involved in the construction of metal cupboard.
This is because of the soft nature of wood.
Instead of the use of guillotine saw is used in the cutting off, of the excess of use of the wood during constmction.instead the use of welding, nail is used in the arrangement of the different parts of cupboard. Another major different between those cupboard made of wood and those made of metal is that, wooden cupboard cannot protect the trough inside it in presence of fire outbreak without getting burnt
There are several types of metals that can be used for construction. Metals for contraction include: Gold, Silver, Aluminum, Bronze, Steel, and Iron. There are usually about three types of steel, as it constitutes the widest use metal. These types include low carbon-steel that has about 0.3%-0.4% carbon contain about 0.3%-0.6% carbon, and high carbon steel that contain about 0.7%-20%carbon.
Steel are used in the construction of metal cupboard, this is because it is soft to cutting, bending and several operation applied to the metal during construction. The galvanized type of steel has a nature of stainless steel and so does not support rust.
Because of this, it is not painted after using it for construction. In fabrication of sheets of metals, several types of gauge are produced and these include, gauge 22, gauge 20, gauge18, gauge16, gauge14, gauge12 and gauge10.
G auge18 and gauge16 are the best types of metal bookshelves

Construction Of Book Shelve:

Constructing a bookshelf is a great DIY project that can help you organize and display your books and other items. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to build a basic bookshelf:

Materials You’ll Need:

Plywood or lumber for shelves
Plywood or lumber for sides and back (optional)
Screws
Screwdriver or drill
Saw (circular saw or jigsaw)
Measuring tape
Level
Pencil
Sandpaper
Wood glue (optional)
Wood finish or paint (optional)

Steps:

Design Your Bookshelf:
Determine the size and design of your bookshelf. Measure the available space where you plan to install it.
Decide how many shelves you want and how far apart they should be. Standard bookshelves have 3-6 shelves.

Gather Your Materials:
Purchase the materials you need based on your design and measurements. Plywood is a common choice for shelves, and you can use solid wood for the sides and back if desired.

Cut Your Wood:
Measure and mark the pieces you’ll need for the shelves, sides, and back.
Use a saw to cut the pieces to the desired dimensions. Ensure your cuts are straight and accurate.

Sand the Edges:
Sand the cut edges of the wood to smooth any rough or sharp spots.

Assemble the Shelves:
If you’re using solid wood for the sides and back, attach them to the shelves using screws. Make sure everything is square and level as you assemble it.
You can also use wood glue in addition to screws for added stability.

Secure the Shelves:
Attach the shelves to the sides and back using screws. Make sure they are evenly spaced and level. Use a level to check for straightness.

Optional: Finish the Wood:
If desired, you can finish the wood with paint, stain, or a clear wood finish. This will protect the wood and give your bookshelf a polished look.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the finish you choose and allow it to dry before using the bookshelf.

Install the Bookshelf:
Use appropriate hardware (wall anchors, brackets, etc.) to securely attach the bookshelf to the wall if it’s a freestanding unit. Make sure it is level and firmly anchored to the wall to prevent accidents.

Load Your Bookshelf:
Organize your books and other items on the shelves. You can also use decorative items to enhance the appearance of your bookshelf.

Enjoy Your Bookshelf:
Your DIY bookshelf is now ready for use. Enjoy your organized and stylish storage space.

Remember to take safety precautions when using tools, and wear appropriate safety gear such as goggles and gloves. If you’re not experienced with woodworking, it may be a good idea to seek guidance from a more experienced DIY enthusiast or hire a professional to help with the construction.
