Design And Fabrication Of Mechanical Footstep Power Generator

Project Material on Design And Fabrication Of Mechanical Footstep Power Generator

Overview

ABSTRACT

In this project we are generating electrical energy by means of a non- conventional method just by walking on the footsteps. Non conventional  system for energies are very much required at this time. Energy generation using footsteps requires no any fuel input to generate electricity. In this project we are generating electricity just with the help of rack and pinion arrangement along with alternator and chain drive mechanism.

For its proper functioning such that it converts Force into electrical energy, the mechanism consists of rack & pinion, chain drives, alternator and battery. We have discussed its various alternate applications with extension also. The power generation is much worthy but it has little initial cost effective factors.

CHAPTER ONE

  • INTRODUCTION

For an alternate method to generate electricity there are number of methods by which electricity can be produced, if such methods footstep energy generation can be an effective method to generate electricity.  Walking is the most common activity in human life. When au person walks he loss his energy to the road in the form of impact, vibration, sound etc,due the transfer of his weight on to the road surface through foot falls on the ground during every step. This energy can be tapped and converted in usable form such as in electrical form. If this device embedded in the foot path can convert foot impact energy in to electrical form.

In this project the weight which acts on the foot step is used to  generate electrical energy. When a  person walks over the foot step, a force acts on the step. One can simply be amazed by knowing how much energy a person can have just by walking on the floor with normal speed. Whenever a person walks, manages to lose energy towards the floor by means excess weight to the floor. That energy may be used and converted into electrical energy. The Mechanical energy(weight)is converted into electrical energy using drive mechanism, in this case rack and pinion. Generated energy can be stored in batteries. Then the output of the battery is used to lighten the lamps in the room.

1.1                                         BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

The availability and its per capita consumptions are regarded as the index of national standard of living in the present day civilization. Energy is an important input in all the sectors of any countries economy. Energy crisis is due to two reasons, firstly the population of the world has been increased rapidly and secondly standard of living of human beings has increased.

India is the country, which majorly suffers with lack of sufficient power generation. The capital energy consumption of U.S.A is about 8000 K.W.H., whereas per INDIA is only 150 K.W.H. U.S.A. with 7% of world population consumes 32% of world population consumes 32% of total power generation where as INDIA as developing country with 20% of world population consumes only 15 of total energy consumed in the world. The availability of regular conventional fossil fuels will be the main sources for power generation, but there is a that they will get exhausted eventually by the next few decades. Therefore, we have to investigate some approximate. Another major problem, alternative, new sources for the power generation, which is not deflected by the very few years, which is becoming the exiting topic for today is the pollution. It suffers all the living organisms of all kinds as on the land, in aqua and in air. Power stations and automobiles are the major pollution producing places. Therefore, we have to investigate other types of renewable sources, which produce electricity without using any commercial fossil fuels, which is not producing any harmful products. There are already existing such systems using renewable energy such as solar wind), OTEC (ocean thermal energy conversions) etc… for power generation. The latest technology which is used to generate the power by such renewable energy is the “mechanical footstep power generator”.

1.2                                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The objective of this project is to generate the electric power through the fabrication of foot step arrangement. Now a day’s demand is increased, so this project is used to generate the electrical power in order to compensate the electric power demand. The whole human/bio-energy being wasted if can be made possible for utilization it will be great indentation and crowd energy frames will be very useful energy in crowded countries.

1.3                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

In this project the conversation of the force energy into electrical energy by mechanical energy. The control mechanism carries the spring, metal plates, metal bars, rack and pinion gears, chain drive system, bearings, small size generator and inverter which are used to drive AC/DC loads. The inverter is used to convert the 12 volts DC to 230 volt AC.

1.4                                                  PROJECT MOTIVATION

Proposal for the utilization of the waste energy of foot power with human locomotion is very much relevant and important for highly populated countries like china and India where the roads, railway stations, bus stops, temples etc., are all over crowded and million of people moves around the clock. This whole human being wasted if can be made for possible for it will be great invention and crowed energy farm will very useful energy sources in crowed countries. Walking across a crowed farm, then will be a fun for ideal people who can improve their health by exercising in such farms with earning. The electrical energy generated at such farms will be useful for nearby applications.

1.5                                          ADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT

  • Free Energy Source
  • No Dependency on Sun Or Wind
  • Environment Friendly
  • Easy To Deploy
  • Power generation simply walking on steps.
  • Power also generated by running.
  • No need fuel input.
  • This is a conventional system.
  • Battery is used to store the generated electricity.

1.6                                            PROBLEMS OF THE PROJECT

  • Only applicable for Particular places.
  • Initial cost of this arrangement is high.
  • Mechanical moving part is high.
  • Care should be taken for batteries

1.7                                         APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT

  1. This can be implemented on railway station to generate electric power
  2. In bus stand
  • In car parking system
