This study was carried out to examine the the effect of qualities of home economics teachers on the performance of students in wassce in Ika LGA of Akwa Ibom State. Specifically, the study examined the effect of teachers’ quality on the academic achievement of students in home economics, investigated on the factors affecting teachers effectiveness in teaching of home economics, examined the relationship between qualities of home economic teachers and students attendance to home economics andevaluated the roles of the school management in the recruitment of qualified home economics teachers. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 30 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopted the activity theory. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the effect of teachers’ quality on the academic achievement of students in home economics are it leads to students interest in Home Economics, leads to improved performance etc. Furthermore, Lack of students interest, Lack of appropriate teaching materials are some of the factors that affects effective teaching of Home Economics. The study recommend Employment of qualified Home Economics teachers, Provision of necessary tools for Home Economics teachers and Provision of periodic training for Home Economics teachers.
The main aim of the research work is to evaluate the effect of qualities of home economics teachers on the performance of students in WASSCE. other specific objectives of the research work include:
- To examine the effect of teachers’ quality on the academic achievement of students in home economics
- To investigate on the factors affecting teachers effectiveness in teaching of home economics
- To examine the relationship between qualities of home economic teachers and students attendance to home economics
- To evaluate the roles of the school management in the recruitment of qualified home economics teachers
- To proffer solution to the above problems
The study came up with research questions so as to ascertain the above stated objectives of study. The specific research questions are stated below as follows:
- What is the effect of teachers’ quality on the academic achievement of students in home economics?
- What are the factors affecting teachers effectiveness in teaching of home economics?
- What is the relationship between qualities of home economic teachers and students attendance to home economics classes?
- What are the roles of the school management in the recruitment of qualified home economics teachers?
H0: there is no significant relationship between qualities of home economic teachers and students attendance to home economics classes
H1: there is significant relationship between qualities of home economic teachers and students attendance to home economics classes
1.0 INTRODUCTION

LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 INTRODUCTION
Literature review refers to the critical examination of the state of knowledge, including substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological contribution to a particular topic. In line with this definition, the literature reviewed revolved around the exploration of the intrinsic meaning of variables under study.
Our focus in this chapter is to critically examine relevant literature that would assist in explaining the research problem and furthermore recognize the efforts of scholars who had previously contributed immensely to similar research. The chapter intends to deepen the understanding of the study and close the perceived gaps.
Precisely, the chapter will be considered in four sub-headings:

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
5.1 SUMMARY
In this study, our focus was to investigate the effect of qualities of home economics teachers on the performance of students in WASSCE using selected Home Economics teachers in Ika LGA as a case study. The study specifically was aimed at examining the effect of teachers’ quality on the academic achievement of students in home economics, investigate on the factors affecting teachers effectiveness in teaching of home economics, examining the relationship between qualities of home economic teachers and students attendance to home economics and evaluating the roles of the school management in the recruitment of qualified home economics teachers. This study was anchored on Modern Theory of Financial Inter mediation.
The study adopted the survey research design and conveniently enrolled participants in the study. A total of 30 responses were received and validated from the enrolled participants who were selected home economics teachers from Ika LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
5.2 CONCLUSION
Based on the finding of this study, the following conclusions were made:
The effect of teachers’ quality on the academic achievement of students in home economics are:
i. Leads to students interest in Home Economics
ii. Leads to improved performance
iii. Improves students learning abilities
iv. Using of suitable teaching methods for improved performance
It was also concluded that factors affecting teachers effectiveness in teaching of home economics are:
i. Lack of students interest
ii. Lack of appropriate teaching materials
iii. Lack of access to latest technology on Home Economics teaching and
iv. Lack of adequate Home Economics teachers
5.3 RECOMMENDATIONS
In the light of the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are hereby proposed:
- Employment of qualified H.E teachers
- Provision of necessary tools for H.E teachers and
- Provision of periodic training for H.E teachers.
