Abstract

This study examines the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)’s role in regulating Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, with a focus on MTN Nigeria as a case study. Utilizing a qualitative research design that includes surveys and interviews, data were gathered from industry stakeholders to assess regulatory interventions, enforcement mechanisms, compliance levels, and the impact of regulatory policies. The findings indicate varying degrees of confidence among stakeholders regarding the NCC’s effectiveness in these areas. While the NCC is recognized for its role in ensuring industry compliance and protecting consumers, issues related to transparency and capacity building persist. Despite these challenges, the NCC remains crucial in shaping Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape. Recommendations to enhance its regulatory impact include improving transparency, increasing stakeholder engagement, building capacity, evaluating policies, and fostering collaborative partnerships. Addressing these areas can bolster the NCC’s regulatory framework and support the sustainable development of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
