Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations

5.1 Preamble

This chapter presents the summary and conclusion that can be drawn from the study. It also presents the researchers recommendations with regards to the findings of the study and proposed areas for further studies by other researcher.

5.2 Summary

The primary objective of this study is to examine the impact of effective communication and feedback on the performance of health records officers by using Lagos State University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH) as a case study.

However, the specific objectives include:

  • To understand the role of feedback in relation to effective communication within an organisation.
  • To explore the challenges to effective communication within the organization.
  • To find out the effect of effective communication on employee performance in LUTH.

Findings from the study reveal that:

  • The study also revealed that there is a significant correlation between communication and feedback and organizational performance of health officers at LUTH.
  • Effective communication have any effect on employee performance in LUTH.
  • The essence of organizational culture should involve interactive integration of organizational value in practice and cohesiveness.
  • Effective feedback is important in organizational functioning.
  • Feedback is a critical component in improving performance organization.
  • Feedback helps the sender ensure that the recipient has interpreted the message correctly.

5.3 Conclusion

This paper aims to evaluate impact of effective communication and feedback on the performance of health records officers.

The study was delimited to the following scope of the study. The study is to be carried out among registered staff and health care practitionals.

Therefore, the respondents covered staff and health care practitionals in LUTH.

In this study, data were collected from staff and health care practitioners who are employed by LUTH, and government information organizations by using questionnaires each respondent answered question according to his/her understanding towards the problem.
As a result of the inability of the researcher to effectively study the whole population strength, a representative number was chosen as the sample size population, 160 respondents was used as the sample size. Data was collected from primary and secondary sources. Primary data was obtained through questionnaire and personal interviews with the respondents. Tables and simple percentage was used as technique of analyzing the research questions.

Findings from the study revealed that that all journalists used for the study are aware of the Freedom of Information Act. A larger percentage strongly agreed that there is a statistically significant difference in the impact of the Freedom of Information Act on the practice of journalism in Delta State.

The major respondents accepted that freedom of Information Act strengthen the constitutional guarantee of freedom to receive, impart information and ideas and also empower professionalism and ethics of journalism, freedom of information is an essential right for every person, freedom of information guards against abuses, mismanagement and corruption.

The study revealed that the attitude is often cited as a communication challenge. In business, we often need to be able to communicate with people who may have different attitudes. Effective communication requires an understanding of attitude, and an understanding of communication channels and styles.

Without feedback, communication is nothing more than information. This makes feedback the primary component in the communication process because it gives the sender the opportunity to analyze the effect of the message. It helps the sender ensure that the recipient has interpreted the message correctly.

Not only is it important for managers to regularly provide feedback to their direct reports, but employees should share it with their managers and their peers as well.

The study also revealed that there is a significant correlation between communication and feedback and organizational performance of health officers at LUTH.

Effective communication has any effect on employee performance in LUTH.

5.4 Recommendations

Based on the findings from the study, the following recommendations are made;

The study suggests that managers, health practitioners should give more complete and intelligible information. Notice boards are another way to communicate. Improve email/internet communication. Face-to-face contact is deemed more helpful, because managers may include the grassroots in policy and decision-making. This will make staff feel appreciated also elicit commitment to the implementation and encourage them to adopt choices to attain goals of the company. Communication barriers or bottlenecks in company"s communication systems might reduce employee performance. Hence, both bosses and subordinates must handle omitted and exaggerated facts. Reduce or eliminate selective learning by reducing communication distractions. In addition, managements should avoid communication overloads as it diminishes clarity. Open and honest conversation is welcomed, but it should be done with decency, without hatred or bias. Timely information distribution reduces employee time pressure, which lowers efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, and output. Timely information allows for clarity to guarantee concreteness and accuracy. Encourage feedback. Upward information flow is also necessary. This will lead to understanding, compatibility, favorable behaviors, easy communication, positive results, positive nonverbal
