ABSTRACT
This work is on building a solar powered outdoor analogue clock that is place outside the house for the public. This device was built with few electronics components, solar panel and analogue wall clock. In this work, a 6v solar panel and super capacitor was used to achieve the renewable power system. The super capacitor keeps the clock running through dull periods in the winter when solar energy is in short supply and then catch up on a bright day.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT
A clock has been known as a device used to measure and indicate time. The clock is one of the oldest human inventions, meeting the need to measure intervals of time shorter than the natural units: the day, the lunar month, year and galactic year. Devices operating on several physical processes have been used over the millennia.
Clocks have different ways of displaying the time. Analog clocks indicate time with a traditional clock face, with moving hands. Digital clocks display a numeric representation of time. Two numbering systems are in use: 24-hour time notation and 12-hour notation (Macey et al., 2019)
Analog clocks usually use a clock face which indicates time using rotating pointers called “hands” on a fixed numbered dial or dials. The standard clock face, known universally throughout the world, has a short “hour hand” which indicates the hour on a circular dial of 12 hours, making two revolutions per day, and a longer “minute hand” which indicates the minutes in the current hour on the same dial, which is also divided into 60 minutes. It may also have a “second hand” which indicates the seconds in the current minute (Macey et al., 2019).
Over many decade, it has been discovered that the major problem of the analogue clock is power consumption due to moving parts that it operates with.
The study was carried out to interface analogue clock with electric outdoor wall clock.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Analogue clock consumes much power due to the moving parts of the system and it usually power with lithium battery. As a result of high battery consumption analogue clock battery dies quicker and a result of that it stops working as soon as the battery dies. This has been a serious challenge faced when using analogue clock. However, this study was carried out to overcome this problem by interfacing analogue wall clock with renewable energy.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The main aim of this study is to interface electric outdoor wall clock with solar energy. The objectives of this project are:
- To have an analogue wall clock with uninterruptible power supply
- To help the public to monitor and manage their schedules
- To save cost of buying batteries and reduce the labour involve in replacing the battery.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
Working on this topic will help the student involved to understand how analogue wall clock works. It will also help the reader to understand the importance of having an outdoor wall clock
This study will serve as a means of exposing us to the application, uses and installation of a solar energy.
1.5 ADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT
- It is simple and durable.
- It will serve as a means of increasing users preference.
1.6 APPLICATIONS
Electric outdoor solar powered analogue wall clocks are found in places like:
• schools
• churches
• roundabouts etc.
1.7 SCOPE OF PROJECT
The scope of this work covers interfacing an analogue clock with solar energy. The device was built around installing a 6v solar panel and a super capacitor which stores energy that power an analogue wall clock.
