Abstract

This study focuses on the stress management on the achievement of organizational goals using guarantee trust bank, and United Bank for Africa as its case study. The objective of the study is to identify and recognize the impact, which stress management has on the achievement of organizational goals, on performance and productivity. And also to identify the major causes of managerial stress to Nigeria business managers and then potter possible solutions to help one problem that led to this research work is the effect of stress, which causes frequent breakdown of staff due to one illness or the other in a situation where members of staff breakdown as a result of stress. Output productivity is redacted and this hampers the achievement of the organization set goals into engage with concrete and objective fact or conclusion, the researcher postulated some research question, which were presented. Analyses were tested using simple percentages and a statistical tool called the chi-square (X2). The total population of the sample is 104 and a sample size 68 was drawn from it to elicit fact from the respondents. The researcher made of both primary and secondary data. Primary data which is known as first hand data was gotten from textbooks, journals, internets, desk research etc based on the analysis, the researcher came up with some findings that effective organizational goal. Also it was discovered that certain unfavourable work conditions influence employees working abilities as well as their output. Also based on the findings the researcher made some useful recommendations, attention by adopting certain strategies that will help reduce it to the barest minimum. Manager should clarify define duties and responsibilities so that they do not encroach into each other and cause have between employees.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In this modern and dynamic world with an every changing environment human are involved in 30 many worldly activities and performing so many roles. This dynamic environment does not only have positive impact but also some negative impacts on out behavior both home and in work place.
Human beings are always comforted with stress especially when the negative environment impacts out weight the positive ones.
Stress is not new present day executives in a sector of the economy and indeed a reasonable number of people from all walks of life are being weighted by stress.
Particularly under the present state of economic hardship social upheavals and political uncertainties in the country.
Managing a business organization is full of stressful experiences for the manager. This is obvious since managing human beings is the most radius takes which the manager must undertake human beings are different and have to be recognized. Rewarded and motivate or listened to and even punished when necessary. This seems tedious and more associated with stress and frustration than the organization functions. The heavy task a manager is filled with.
Coupled with high demand by employees and environment influence are capable of disrupting ones emotional stability and thereby induce stress. Stress can therefore be seen as anything that is brought to bear or the individual with psychological effect it can be also defined substantial inhabitance when demand and response capability under conditions where failure to meet demand has important consequences.
Managers can experience stress either because at an opportunity or because of threats it can be brought about due to any event or circumstance and requires some forms of coping reaction managers who are faced with the opportunity of promotion may become stressful and frustrated if they lack self-efficiency managers who are highly religious in dealing with the public are bound to suffer one form of stress of the owner. The economy in which business organization operation or exists precarious and under developed. This is responsible for the high rate of poverty in the society managers in business manager’s pressure.
This research is therefore on the impact of stress management on the achievement of organization goals.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS
Here are the problems that necessitate this study and his research work is intended to address than:
1. Reduced Output of Workers: This is a great reduction in last two years of preparation data shows that in 2010 the output of workers was 83.7% while in 2011 it was 64.8%.
2. Lower Profit: These organization have a profit turnover of twenty million naira (N20,000,000) in the year 2010 while in the year 2011, it experience a profit turnover of ten million naira (N10,000,000).
3. Poor Customers Satisfaction: These is reduction is satisfaction received by the customers. This is as a result of delay in delivery of services.

4. Poor Discharge of Social Responsibilities: These organizations have reduced drastically in discharging their social responsibilities to their lost communication. Data shows that scholarship to student has reduced hospital bills for sick one stopped since the last two years.

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
This research study strictly:
1. To identify the impact of the stress management on the achievement of organization goals.
2. To identify the major source of managerial stress to Nigeria business managers.
3. To identify the impact of stress on the job performance and productivity.
4. Finally to highlight possible solutions and recommendation towards minimizing its negative consequences.

1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. Has stress management achievement of organizational goals?
2. What are the major causes of stress in an organization?
3. What are the barriers militating against stress management?
4. How can these barriers be reduces?
5. What effects does stress have on managers and employees performance in the work place?
6. Does poor job definition and lack of motivation lead to stress in an organization?

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance of the study is concerned with its relevance especially to the organization (used as case study). The researcher and the entire public (society) the study is primarily significant for the award of National Diploma in Business Administration and Management.
Nevertheless the study also exposes the researcher to the vest knowledge about the issue under the study being the impact of stress management on the organization used as the case study will find the recommendations made by the researcher very useful. That is to say that if the recommendations are appropriate imbibed stress will no longer be an issue and will be properly managed while achieving its goals.
Finally this research work is significant because it will add to the existing body of knowledge. It will serve as a basis or point of reference for student and researches especially in the field of business administration and management. Who wish to carry out further researches on issues related to the work.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of the study is covered by the research work.
The scope of the study therefore is the impact of stress management on the achievement of organizational goals with particular interest on selected financial institution in Rivers State.

1.7 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
United Bank of Africa and Guarantee Trust Bank to be precise the limitation of the study point to those contains in the study.
The research failed with, while carrying out the study such contains may include, time being that the researcher had limited time as he had to combine the study with other academic work or programmes fund. Limited fund is also a constrain which the researcher faced while carrying out the study as had to visit both organization (used as case study) after sourcing out materials, both from libraries and the internet, poor qualitative response.
This is regarded as a constraint in that, the management and worker in UIT and UIT are not all responsive in giving useful information to the researcher and this makes the work tedious than it ought to be.

1.8 DEFINITIONS OF TERMS
In the course of gaining understanding the study, the following operational terms with their definition are being provided:
Impact: It can be defined as the powerful effect that something has on somebody.
Stress: Stress has been defined as the physical psychological and behavioural reactions experiences by individuals in situation where they feel that their ability to cope may soon be over whelmed.
Management: This is seen as a process by which the manager get thing done though the people.
Achievement: It means something important that you used in doing by your own effort and skills.
Organizational: This is defined as any social structure or system consisting of two or more persons who are inter-dependent and who work together in a co-ordinate manner to attain common goals.
Goal: This is defined something that you hope to achieve.

1.9 HISTORY OF ORGANIZATION OF THE STUDY
United Bank of African Plc, Port Harcourt opened on 1st July 1988 with a total number of twenty eighty workers and now has for qualified and trained staff. While the manager was talking with the research, he said that their vision with the researcher is to be undisputed leading dominate full services bank in Nigeria. They have two departments:
Marketing department
Operating department
Under the marketing department they have:
a. Institution
b. Small business
c. Mass market
While under operation department, they have cash:
a. Clearing
b. Customer service
Presently UBA has about seven hundred and forty (740) branches in Nigeria, also a branch York London, Dubai Ghana, Uganda and Cameroun.
They have about thirteen product which include saving account, current account, domiciliary account fixed deposit loans, card (ATM) exchange card and master card, mobile SMS alert indirect banking (internet banking) trade finance, funds transfer (local and international) and salary administration.
Profile of GTB
Guarantee Trust Bank was in corporate in July 1990 a private limited liability company wholly by Nigeria individual and institution. The bank was licensed as a commercial bank in august 1990 and commenced its operation as a bank in February 1991. Presently it has about fifty qualified state and two hundred branches in Nigeria. There are about four department and they are corporate services operations and institutional banking group (division).
Corporate service they have:

• Legal unit
Institutional banking group they have oil gas telecommunication
