Isolation And Identification Of Bacteria From Nasal Swabs
Abstract
This study investigates the composition, diversity, and potential implications of nasal microbiota in relation to respiratory health among students and staff members at Ignatus Ajuru University of Education. Nasal swab samples were collected and analyzed to characterize the microbial community, identify bacterial species, and assess associations with respiratory health outcomes. The findings reveal a diverse microbial ecosystem within the nasal cavity, predominantly composed of Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, and Proteobacteria. Several bacterial species, including Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium species, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, were identified as prevalent colonizers of the nasal mucosa. Analysis of nasal microbiota composition shows associations with respiratory health outcomes, with participants harboring higher abundance of Firmicutes and Actinobacteria exhibiting lower rates of respiratory infections and allergic rhinitis symptoms. Network analysis highlights complex ecological interactions among bacterial taxa, underscoring the dynamic nature of nasal microbial communities. Predictive modeling based on nasal microbiota composition achieves high accuracy in predicting respiratory health outcomes, suggesting the potential utility of microbial biomarkers for risk stratification and disease prediction. This study contributes to our understanding of the role of nasal microbiota in respiratory health and disease, with implications for personalized approaches to respiratory disease prevention and management.
Aims and Objectives
- To characterize the nasal microbiota composition of individuals affiliated with Ignatus Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) using culture-based and molecular techniques.
- To identify prevalent bacterial species and assess their relative abundance in nasal swab samples collected from students, faculty, and staff members at IAUE.
- To investigate the potential association between nasal bacterial diversity and demographic factors such as age, sex, and occupation among participants in the study.
