This project examined the relevance of directing on the performance of tertiary institutions. The study employed survey research design and sampled three hundred and two respondents. Three hundred and two copies and questionnaires were distributed and only two hundred and fifty copies retrieved. Data were generated from secondary sources such as journals, internets and textbooks. The result of the finding revealed that directing function has significant effect on workers’ satisfaction in an organization. It was also revealed that directing function enhances workers productivity as it ensures that the right number of workers, at the right time and right place are recruited. Based on this, it was recommended that directing department must be closely involved at the management level where organization plan formulated and information obtained about the direction of the organization. Also, management of organization should ensure that workers due for promotion and transfer after directing process are immediately implemented
