Pages: 65 | Words: 13860 | Chapters: 1-5 | Type: Project
Abstract
This study investigates teamwork, intra-professional collaboration, and service delivery among Health Information Management Practitioners (HIMPs) at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Owo, Ondo State. Utilizing a descriptive cross-sectional design, data were collected from 52 participants through structured questionnaires. The study found that HIMPs generally perceive teamwork positively, with a significant number rating it as "good" or "very good." Clear communication and supportive colleagues were identified as facilitators of intra-professional collaboration, while organizational barriers posed challenges. Technology, particularly Electronic Health Records (EHRs), was recognized as instrumental in enhancing teamwork and service delivery, albeit with associated challenges such as technical issues and resistance to change. The findings underscore the importance of fostering effective teamwork, promoting intra-professional collaboration, and leveraging technology to optimize service delivery in health information management. Recommendations include implementing communication training programs, establishing interdisciplinary collaboration platforms, and investing in robust technology infrastructure. Further research is warranted to deepen understanding and address remaining gaps in knowledge, including longitudinal investigations and qualitative inquiries to capture in-depth perspectives of HIMPs. By addressing these recommendations, healthcare organizations can enhance collaboration, embrace technological advancements, and cultivate a culture of innovation to meet patient needs effectively.
