Assessment Of The Application Of Science Education To Daily Life

The application of science education to daily life is a critical aspect of community development and empowerment, particularly in rural settings such as the Lapai community in Niger State, Nigeria. This qualitative study examines the extent to which science education is applied in the daily lives of individuals within the Lapai community, as well as the challenges, opportunities, and implications associated with its implementation. Through semi-structured interviews, observations, and thematic analysis, data were collected from community members, educators, and local stakeholders to explore perceptions, experiences, and practices related to science education. The findings reveal a complex interplay of socio-economic, cultural, educational, and infrastructural factors that influence the application of science education within the community. While there is a varying level of awareness and appreciation for science education, significant challenges such as limited access to quality education, cultural beliefs, and technological barriers hinder its effective implementation. Despite these challenges, the study identifies several opportunities for improvement, including community engagement, investment in education and technology, and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The implications of the study extend to policymakers, educators, and development practitioners, highlighting the need for context-specific approaches to science education delivery that are responsive to the unique socio-cultural and environmental context of the community. Recommendations for policy and practice include investing in educational infrastructure, promoting digital literacy, integrating indigenous knowledge systems into curricula, and supporting entrepreneurship in science-related fields. The study also suggests avenues for future research, including longitudinal studies, comparative analyses, and investigations into the impact of science education interventions on broader societal outcomes. By addressing key challenges and leveraging existing strengths, the Lapai community can enhance its resilience, sustainability, and quality of life through the informed application of science education principles.
