The Design And Construction Of Car Battery Security System (PDF/DOC)
ABSTRACT
This paper proposes a theft Protection System for a car battery. The device serves as an electronic watch dog, because when installed on a battery hood so that when somebody (thief) breaks the loop cable the alarm will be initiated which call the attention of the owner and thereby deters the intruder. The system is built from discrete semiconductor device. It is relatively simple in both its operation and analysis. The system was built on a vero board and was tested. The system was successfully built in that it responded to its working principle.

1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
Car battery is a rechargeable battery that is used to start a motor vehicle. Its main purpose is to provide an electric current to the electric-powered starting motor, which in turn starts the chemically-powered internal combustion engine that actually propels the vehicle (Magliozzi et al., 2017).
Car batteries are often the target of petty thieves because stealing them is super easy. Just open the hood and it’s there, set for the picking.
They’re also expensive enough to be worth the risk, typically between N20000 to N80000 in Nigeria depending on the size of the battery, but it can cost more depending on the car. On top of that, they can easily be stolen to a recycling yard or on the black market.
Usually people don’t inquire about ways to secure a car battery until theft has already happened. The tricky thing is that if a thief has already stolen your car battery, they will know that you now have a brand new battery! Repeat thefts of car batteries are incredibly common, so taking some security measures is advised.
While it’s pretty difficult to completely secure a car battery that’s positioned under the hood, you can definitely protect it better. A car battery thief will typically swoop the parking lot for easier targets, avoiding those cars that are secured in any special way (Magliozzi et al., 2017).
Replacing a stolen car battery can be a hassle. Getting an alarm help you prevent battery theft. Getting a loop alarm is an inexpensive means of preventing battery theft. Loop alarm alarms are small, inexpensive, and easy to use. Hook the wire under the hood so that it triggers when someone opens it. Hopefully, the sound will be enough to scare thieves away which the main aim of the proposed work.
1.2 Problem Statement
An electrical battery is a combination of one or more electrochemical cells, used to convert stored chemical energy into electrical energy. The battery has become a common power source for many household, robotics and industrial applications. Due to the wider area of application there is need for providing a security device that protects the battery from hijacker or thieves. Situations arise where a car will be packed at night, when the day is dawn it will be discovered that someone has gone out with the car battery. Car battery security system was invented to solve this problem by providing an alarm whenever a car battery is remove from the car.
1.4 Aim and objectives of the study
The main aim of the study is to build a car battery security system. The objectives are:
i. To build a device that will protect the battery from stealing.
ii. To provide an improved supervised security alarm system which is reliable in operation and inexpensive to build.
iii. To provide an improved alarm system operated from a single power source, such as a battery, which has a loop containing sensors for alarm conditions and which nevertheless is supervised without significantly decreasing the life time of the battery.
iv. To provide an improved alarm system which is supervised without imposing significant increased power requirements on the source of power for the system.
1.5 Scope of the study
The scope of this work covers building an electronic loop alarm system comprises a loop alarm, connected to a continuous loop of cable which can be passed through the battery to be protected.
Once the system is armed (normally by a key-switch on the alarm controller), if the electronic loop is cut or broken by an intruder or thieve anywhere along its length, the oscillating siren in the alarm controller is triggered and sounds continuously until the controller is reset with the key.
1.6 Significance of the study
This study shall serve a means of learning how to project ones properties and investments. It serves as a means of becoming familiar with components used in the circuit.
1.7 Application of the study
Car security system is Loop Alarm Security Systems, apart from using it to protect the battery, this device can also be used in retail stores and outlets, where they are used to protect a wide range of goods from antiques to DVD players and other electrical items.
1.8 Methodology
To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:
- Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
- Draw a block diagram.
- Test for continuity of components and devices,
- Design and calculation for the device was carried out.
- Studying of various component used in circuit.
- Construction of the circuit was carried out.
- Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.
1.9 Project Organisation
The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
